The documentary film (or documentary) is a film and television genre. In radio, we talk about radio documentary.
A documentary can be a creative documentary, based on the vision of an author and offering a creative interpretation of reality, or an informative documentary or didactic kind (historical, social, animal). The documentary genre is constructed from real images, it was long opposed to the genre fiction. Such a definition is, however, not strictly as a documentary may overlap some features of fiction, including via reconstitution as docudrama or through upstream reflection on the subject, built on an elaborate scenario. Similarly, the filming of a documentary reality that affects the film guide and sometimes illusory thus making the theoretical distance between the filmed reality and documentary. The real, staged, is primarily the vision of an author and documentary film becomes a fiction in which the characters play themselves.
